[last lines from the Dark Knight (2008)]
James Gordon Jr.: Why’s he running, Dad?
Lt. James Gordon: Because we have to chase him.
James Gordon Jr.: He didn’t do anything wrong.
Lt. James Gordon: Because he’s the hero Gotham deserves, but not the one it needs right now. So we’ll hunt him. Because he can take it. Because he’s not our hero. He’s a silent guardian, a watchful protector. A dark knight. After just watching The Dark Knight (2008) once again to warm me up for this summers final release of the Batman franchise I thought I’d post this powerful speech that Commissioner Gordon delivers in the final sentence. I know what your thinking, seriously that was in 2008? I KNOW! seriously feels like yesterday, well Dark Knight Rises will be here in what feels like tomorrow-I hope….
The pressure Chris Nolan must have felt on this final piece of the jigsaw must have been tremendous due to the previous films success rates. The Dark Knight was a film rich in amazing performances, great direction and for me also most notably the cinematography, this was often due to the IMAX cameras that were used and also destroyed as one was obliterated during the underground chase scene, oops.
This new instalment of the franchise in Chris Nolan’s words is different to the previous, Chris wanted a villain who was more physical rather than mentally challenging and felt Bane was the perfect choice. The pictures, youtube video’s, blogs, website posts and magazine articles on this is something I’ve never quite seemed before; the hype on this film is quite incredible and I’m extremely excited myself.
Whether Tom Hardy can match the performance of Heath Ledger, we will soon find out, the film is going have to be pretty incredible to match the previous, but come July 20th, we can make our own opinions on the dark knight.
